Sea ice plays an important role in the cycling and exchange of climate relevant gases, and consequently the current observed and predicted decline in sea-ice cover has implications for regional biogeochemistry and climate change.

In 2011, a SCOR working group on Biogeochemical Exchange Processes at the Sea-Ice Interfaces (BEPSII) (WG140) has been initiated, in which SOLAS and a second phase of the IPY Ocean-Atmosphere-Sea Ice-Snowpack (OASIS) project is collaborating to address this MTS theme issues. Get updated info about the current progress of this WG here.

The following SOLAS endorsed projects contribute to the Mid-Term Strategy:
NETCARE- NETwork on Climate and Aerosols: Addressing Key Uncertainties in Remote Environments
OASIS- Ocean - Atmosphere - Sea Ice - Snowpack
